JRR Tolkien spent the majority of his adult life writing in Middle Earth. Besides the novels he wrote, he left behind a tremendous volume of essays, half finished sketches, and notes on a wide variety of topics: linguistics, elven marriage customs, reincarnation, and lineages to name just a few, and often numerous drafts of everything as his thoughts evolved. Thanks to the careful curation of his literary estate by his son Christopher, we have access to much of this material, and this is the stuff I’ve been obsessed with since I discovered it. It isn’t as well known as it should be, and that’s what this podcast will cover. Certainly, Tolkien’s more commonly known stuff will be covered as well, but our main goal is to shine a light on the lesser trod paths.
